What we leave to a pond builder
A stock tank is a small dam. Clearing brush off it is a clearing job; reshaping it, deepening it, or sealing a leak is dam work. There are pond builders in this county who do that well and publish their prices, and we are not one of them.
If your tank needs both, we clear first so the pond builder can see what they are working with.
Clay and floodplain
Blackland tanks usually hold water on their own because the clay seals. That is also why nobody wants a machine on a wet dam: gumbo under a track turns to grease and the dam face slumps. We clear tanks in dry weather only.
Many tanks on this side sit near Wilbarger or Gilleland floodplain. Brush clearing is generally fine there; earthwork may need a look from the county first. We stay on the clearing side of that line.

Do you build ponds?
No. We clear them. Brush on the dam, trees in the spillway, willows and cattails you cannot see the water for. If you want a new tank dug or a dam engineered, that is a pond builder and we will say so.
Can you clear the dam without damaging it?
Mulching on a dam is careful, low ground pressure work done dry, with the roots left in place to hold the fill. We do not grub a dam. Trees with trunks in the dam get cut and the stumps left, then you decide with a pond person what the dam needs.
What about the floodplain?
Many east Travis tanks sit in or near Wilbarger and Gilleland floodplain. Clearing brush is usually fine; moving dirt is not without checking. We clear; we do not move dirt near a creek without someone confirming it is allowed.
Will the tank hold water better after?
Clearing the brush does not fix a leaking tank. On blackland most tanks hold; if yours does not, that is a clay or bentonite question for a pond contractor, not a clearing question.
