Brush Clearing in Manor, TX

For pasture that is past a bush hog and mesquite that has taken the fence. We mulch the understory, or grub what would otherwise come back.

  • Mulch or grub
  • East of I‑35

Brush too thick to mow

That is the sentence we hear most. The tract was pasture ten years ago, somebody stopped shredding it, mesquite seeded in and yaupon filled the shade under it, and now a tractor will not go through.

That is a mulcher job. If you want the mesquite to stay gone, it is a mulcher job followed by a grub.

What grows in the brush here

Mesquite

Thorned, crown sprouting, the reason east metro pasture closes up. Mulching opens it; grubbing kills it.

Yaupon

Evergreen understory that shades out grass. Mulches clean, rarely a resprout problem on mowed ground.

Huisache

Sweet acacia, fast on disturbed clay, worse thorns than mesquite. Treat like mesquite.

Greenbrier

The vine that ties it all together and takes your fence. Mulches with the rest.

Hutto and east Austin

Hutto pasture north on 130 is the same mesquite prairie with more new subdivisions cut into it, which means more fence line brush and more lots where the mesquite is the neighbor's problem too. Land clearing in Hutto →

Brush clearing in Austin, for us, means east of I‑35: 78724 and 78725 acreage, the Colony Park side, tracts along 130 south. We do not run west of Mopac. East Austin →

Mesquite grubbing and crown sprout

Mesquite is the brush that comes back. It crown sprouts from a bud zone below the ground line, so cutting or mulching it opens the pasture but does not kill the plant. That is not a sales line; it is how the tree works, and anyone who promises a one pass kill with a mulcher is selling you a second visit.

If you want mesquite gone, the root crown has to come out. That is grubbing: the machine digs each crown instead of shearing the stem, slower per acre and rougher on the ground, which is why we do it where mesquite density justifies it and mulch the rest. On most tracts the honest plan is mulch now, then a follow up grub or spot treatment on what sprouts.

Send photos and say whether you want the pasture open or the mesquite dead. Those are different jobs and we quote them differently.

Brush clearing questions

Brush hogging or forestry mulching?

A bush hog handles grass and stems about the size of your thumb. Once the mesquite is wrist thick or the yaupon is over the hood, you need a mulcher. If a mower operator has already told you no, that is the answer.

What is clear and grub?

Clearing takes the brush off. Grubbing pulls the roots and crowns out of the ground with an excavator or a grubbing blade. Mesquite and huisache need grubbing if you want them gone rather than knocked back.

How much does brush clearing cost in Manor?

Day rate, same as every other method. Google's AI Overview on Aug 24, 2026 showed $2,500 to $3,600 per day for land clearing near Manor. Grubbing adds machine time and usually a pile to deal with, so it runs above straight mulching.

Can you burn the brush after?

Usually not, and we do not plan on it. Travis County burn bans are frequent and Manor has its own rules. Mulching removes the question. Burn rules on the cost page →

Is there NRCS or LCRA money for brush clearing?

There are cost share programs for brush management in Texas, but eligibility depends on your acreage, your county, and the year's funding. We are not the program office. Ask NRCS Travis County or LCRA directly before you budget around it.

Does grubbing get rid of mesquite for good?

It removes the plants it digs, root crown and all, so those do not come back. Seed in the soil still sprouts over the years, which is why grubbed pasture stays open with normal shredding while mulched-only mesquite needs a follow up.

Send photos of the brush

A photo down the fence and one into the thickest part. We will tell you hog, mulch, or grub.
