Forestry Mulching in Manor, TX

A forestry mulcher is a drum or disc head on a skid steer or a dedicated high horsepower carrier. It shreds standing brush and small trees where they stand and leaves the material on the ground as a mulch layer two to four inches deep.

Nothing gets pushed into a pile or hauled off. The root mat stays in the ground, and on blackland that matters because it holds the surface together through the first wet season while the mulch keeps the clay from baking into plates.

Once it is done you can walk the tract, drive a side by side across it, stake corners for a survey, or run cattle on it after the first flush of grass.

Mesquite is most of the work east of Manor. It comes in scattered on old pasture and closes into a thicket within ten years or so. Yaupon and huisache fill in under it, greenbrier ties it all together, and along the creek bottoms you get hackberry and elm saplings too big for a bush hog.

Sometimes. Mesquite keeps buds in a crown just below the soil, and mulching cuts above it. If you plan to build or mow the tract, resprouts are a mowing problem. If you want pasture that stays clean, the options are a follow up grub of the worst stems or a chemical treatment from someone licensed to apply it.

Mulching is not a permanent mesquite kill and we do not sell it as one. It is the fastest way to get a usable tract without a burn pile, and we will tell you what year two looks like.
